Bally Evel Knievel DIP Switch Settings

The -17 (or -35) MPU used on the Bally Evel Knievel pinball machine has four banks of dip switches.

Each bank has eight switches for a total of 32 different switches, and the banks are labeled S1-8, S9-16, S17-24, and S25-32. The "ON" toggle position is marked on the switch bank. Before making any switch adjustments, you should TURN YOUR MACHINE OFF.

Here are a few charts as to what these switches do.


First the coin chute switches. All Ballys of this era have at least two coin chutes, one on the left side (hinge side), and one on the right side. Some have an optional center chute. Chute #1 (hinge side) is controlled by switches S1-S5, and Chute #3 (right) is controlled by switches S9-S13. On Evel Knievel, Chute #2 (center) is controlled by S22-S23. You'll notice how the left and right chutes are similar and the center chute is a little different. I believe this is to allow for a different coin in the center (e.g., quarters in #1 and #3, and SBA dollars in chute #2).

** One credit for 1st coin, two credits for 2nd coin, providing no scoring occured between 1st and 2nd coin drops.
     If scoring occured, 2nd coin gives one credit.
