Bally Xenon Coin Door Adjustments

The -35 MPU used on the Bally Xenon pinball machine has several diagnostic tests and setting adjustments you can make via the small switch located on the inside of the coin door. The diagnostic tests consist of a lamp test, a display test, a solenoid test, and a stuck switch test. The adjustable settings are stored in the MPU's static RAM, and if you do not have a battery or memory capacitor, they will be lost when power is removed from the machine.

To run the diagnostic tests and/or change the settings, you must power up the machine, then press the small switch located inside the coin door. The first 4 presses are diagnostic tests. Pressing the button for the 5th time will take you to the first adjustable setting.

Press Test Comments
1 Feature Lamps All controlled lamps will be flashed on and off
2 Display Driver All displays will count from 000000 to 9999999
3 Solenoid Test Each solenoid will be energized, one by one, and the solenoid's number will appear in the player score displays.
Click Here for a list of solenoids and their associated test number.
4 Stuck Switch The number of the first closed playfield switch will be displayed in the player score displays. If no switches are closed, '00' will appear in the Credit/Ball-In-Play display. If a switch number does appear, that is just the "first" closed switch that was discovered. Once the switch is freed, there may be others.
Click Here for the list of switches and their associated test number.

By pressing the switch for the 5th time, you will be able to visit and adjust the various settings that are stored in the MPU's static RAM. If you don't want to run the diagnostic tests, you simply power up the machine, then press the button quickly 5 times, and you will be at the first adjustable setting. The setting's current value stored in memory will be displayed on all four player displays, and a bookkeeping identification number (05-11) will be displayed on the Match/Ball-In-Play display.

Service Credits are designed to allow the serviceman to test the game under actual play conditions without disturbing the bookkeeping records that reside at identification numbers 06, 07, 10, 11, and 12.

To obtain Service Credits, push and release the Self-Test switch until identification number 05 appears in the Match/Ball in Play window, then hold the Credit button in until the desired number of Service Credits (up to 5) appears on the player score displays.

If "Total Plays" is reset to zero, then "Total Replays" should also be reset to zero in order to maintain the proper game percentage value.

For positions 16 & 17, the settings (03, 02, 01) are adjusted using the credit button. If Same Player Shoots Again is lit, then X-Ball will award 50,000(*) or 25,000(**) instead.
